The National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR) was founded by families concerned about the limited amount of medical research focusing on the cause, prevention, treatment and cure of autism spectrum disorder. They are a non-profit organization committed to funding research with a strong network of talented and dedicated volunteers and supports.

Each year our administration, staff, parents and students join together as Team P. 188X to participate in the Walk F.A.R. for N.A.A.R. each year. P. 188X is very proud to be part of this wonderful event and look forward to many walks in the future.

Community School Director Ms. Janelle Robinson

 Welcome!

 Ms. Janelle Robinson picture

As a brief introduction, my name is Janelle Robinson. I come from Brooklyn, New York where I started my education career as a digital arts teacher for a Brooklyn based CBO. I now serve the wonderful organization, P188X, who has the most amazing students and the most devoted staff members. My goals are to be able to learn the needs of my community and provide resources based on their needs and to provide students with equal access to academic assistance, clinical and developmental assistance, and even fun programs to participate in.

VISION

CEI believes the school should be the center and driving force of public education, innovation and reform. Every child deserves a quality education.

MISSION

With a focus on equity and innovation, CEI works directly with school leaders, teachers, students and families to create high performing schools in under-resourced communities to help children succeed.

Community Based Organization - CEI

CEI is a community-based organization serving new and existing community schools. Our role within community schools is to raise academic achievement and transform communities through an equity lens. We like to look within the students, families, and the community to properly assess how we can provide resources based on everyone’s needs.

We do this by providing academic assistance and tutoring

  • STEM and STEAM programming
  • Clinical Resources (mental and physical)
  • Overall assessing the needs of the school.

ELT Programs

ELT stands for expanded learning time. In community schools ELT can be offered before, during and after school. Sometimes on weekends and often times during the summer. The type of ELT programs we will be providing this year are STEAM based programs (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). The 3 main programs we will have at P188X are:

  • Esports
  • Robotics
  • Arts

Let’s take a look at what some of these programs do!

Student building a lego robotGeneric students playing video gamesSchool class presenting finished bench.

Robotics

This program teaches students how to:

  • Code
  • Assemble robots
  • Use coding for Robo Fight competitions

Back to School Open House

 Back to school open house

P.188X kicks off the school year with a big welcome to all of our families. All sites host an open house morning in celebration of the new school year: sharing with parents our exciting atmosphere of learning. Coffee and donuts are served as our Principal, Shanie J. Smith-Baugh, welcomes our valued parents. Administration, Coordinators, Nurses, and Related Services Providers are introduced. Parents are then given the opportunity to visit their child’s classroom and meet the teachers and para-professionals. Classroom policies/procedures and expectations for the year are discussed. This wonderful opportunity allows parents and teachers time to discuss home enrichment ideas to support classroom learning.
